Choosing your Shih Tzu Pup

When you have decided that a Shih Tzu is the perfect pooch for you, the nesxt thing to do is find a breeder that is reliable and trustworthy. It is almost a must to visit the breeder in his home or the area where he keeps the dam and the puppies for you to know the real condition and environment of the pet you are getting. Once everything is set, it is time to go over the litter and carefully pick which one of the little furballs is “the one”. There may be many choices but surely there will only be one that will stand out and get your heart. So how will you know which will be suited for you? Here some reminders to keep in mind as you make your choice.
Usually the puppy who gets to be picked is the biggest and most energetic among the litter. These pups are confident little creatures which don’t do second thinking whether or not to jump on you or run to you as he knocks over his or her brothers and sisters. You may find it cute and sweet; but this alpha pup is n’t necessarily the best choice. The type A personality in puppies can get you in a lot of headaches as they grow up because they are very assertive and have a tendency to see you as their subordinate in the pack. Also, look at the set of pups as a group – not only taking notice on the most attention grabbing one or the most shy one. Choose the puppy who is neither of both – the pup who knows where he stands, can be assertive, playful and friendly but does not step on other members of the litter. Your pup should exhibit curiosity as he or she goes near you and show trust upon you showing that you can be trusted. This pup should get along with everyone pretty well but does not dwell much on being too gullible. After saying hi to you, this pup normally goes back to the dam and settles back in his pack. You can also ask the breeder to separate all the pups from each other and observe them individually – because in your house, most probably, this is the scenario.
