Should your housebroken dog suddenly exhibit soiling on the house, then you should see a veterinarian immediately. There are many medical conditions that cause uncontrollable elimination in the dog. The most common are kidney problems where there is a presence of urinary stones. Sometimes, this is even accompanied by a bloody discharge that you may need to watch out for. Your veterinarian will do some tests (physical, blood and urinalysis) to confirm or eliminate this initial diagnosis. Older dogs are also expected to have health problems that may manifest in toilet problems. If your have a puppy, on the other hand, take into consideration that these little furballs have a shorter span of urination/defecation control. If your puppy is 3 months old, he or she can only contain the urine or feces for only three hours. It is basically the same number of hours as the month age of the pup. On the other hand, one year old dogs estimated control is up to 8 hours. Another reason is excitement or fear. Dogs, when suddenly subjected to extreme stress have a tendency to pee or poop out of the blue. This is best addressed using conditional training and gradual introduction of the stressor.
