The Show Dog Shih Tzu

The Shih Tzu coat is what makes this breed stand out among all canines. The way their hair moves as these little pooches run and walk is what truly makes Shih Tzu a beautiful, graceful and regal breed. No wonder these dogs come top on the line when it comes to dog shows. Shih Tzu dog shows are highlights of any doggy event because owners really take the time and effort to make their pets their most gorgeous. Do not ever underestimate a canine fashion show because breeders and owner really take it seriously. The prestige and fulfillment, as they say will never be worth any money.

So how does a Shih Tzu prepare for the runway? The secret to keeping a flowy, shiny and healthy coat is virgin coconut oil. This is used by owners on the hair of the dog on a daily basis and there are even times that the hair is wrapped around in tissue paper to “preserve” the healthy state of the hair. Coconut has undeniably many beauty purposes even on humans, and actually, in dogs too. It helps to regrow the skin and keeping the skin hydrated and dirt free. However, before the show, the oil is removed to avoid a limp look of a Shih Tzu on stage. Oiled hair is not as soft and moving as dried and styled hair – and this is what is preferred in dog shows. Whiskers, no matter how invisible or insignificant looking they may be, are as important as the coat. Whiskers should look white and must reflect when light strikes them – this is the characteristic of a pretty Shih Tzu. This is done by washing the whiskers using a solution of boracic acid. However, make sure that none of the solution gets near the eye and wipe them off after application or put talcum powder to dry them. Also, you can actually use coat conditioner on the whiskers for a fuller and softer look. Last and definitely not the least is the topknot. This is like the cherry on top of the cake because this will double your Shih Tzu’s cuteness and show off his or her adorable bulging eyes. It also adds for a cleaner and more polished look. And of course, do not ever forget to put a fluffy and shiny ribbon to top it all with.
